Opportunities for a headstart: Connections to the professional world
It is of great importance to impart to students the necessary tools for accessing internships or first employments. Although that by itself is not enough. The career center focuses on building and strengthening long-lasting professional partnerships with regional companies and thereby informing those about recent developments, study programs and degrees on a regular basis. In return, it is only possible to ensure the most effective counseling to students, when the career center has access to an extensive market overview and is aware of the companies’ requirements.
On February 10th in 2015 we hosted the 13th BiTS Business Day - a meet-up for economical players. Again in this year, company representatives enjoyed a varied program in the main auditorium of BiTS Iserlohn.
It is important to the university to maintain an intense and continuous exchange with the regional and broader economy, to inform on developments and to offer a platform for a lively network. The career center, as yearly host of BiTS Business Day, follows the path of communication as well as the mutual connection not only in regards to the event. This perspective is part of the everyday work. Interested representatives are offered the opportunity to join the network of BiTS and get to know the distinct players of the university.
Traditionally in May - although on individual notice also gladly on other dates - the career center cordially invites personnel managers to join the event BiTS exclusive for an opportunity to get in touch with with BiTS students and soon to be graduates. This way companies can inform on their recruiting criteria and have short interviews. The career center coordinates the interview schedule. The best reference for the event are actual working contracts that result from BiTS exclusive. In this year, 14 companies joined us at BiTS and interviewed 107 of our students.
The career center gladly discusses with personnel managers, whether a participation in the following event is possible. It also holds ideas and formats for interactive marketing. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Interested companies further have the possibility to reach out to students and graduates through the Xing group “BiTS Career Center”. In addition to that you could make use of the group to read more on the activities and events of the career center as well as to to join in on current discussions.
In this context we are very content with the amount of interest companies currently take in granting BiTS students and graduates the opportunity to prove themselves in the workforce. We regularly publish job offers and qualification profiles in the intranet “BiTS Job Offers” and on our classical black board. Companies can transmit their offers via email to the career center.
During the semester there are lectures within the so called BiTS forum during which companies inform about their access criteria and other practical topics. Individual issues and dates can be discussed with the career center.
In the beginning of the winter semester of 2014/2015 the event series BiTS personnel management forum was created. Interesting lectures from the personnel branch, exciting discussions and the opportunity for extensive networking are offered to a total of 60 participants. Ever since the event is taking place regularly in the form of lectures or interactive workshops at BiTS.
To strengthen the networking philosophy, BiTS Roundtable took place in cooperation with Vodafone GmbH in April 2015. The format enables companies to network and converse exclusively with students of BiTS in a small gathering. It is possible to discuss on economical topic, career entry, professions and further steps of communication.
