Congratulations to Maya Sednawi! On Thursday, 3rd August, Rector Prof. Dr. Stefan Stein handed over a full scholarship for the german taught bachelor program psychology in Iserlohn to 19 year old Maya.
Maya fled with her family from Syria to Germany, learned german in two years and graduated highschool in Iserlohn this year. Now she was rewarded with a full scholarship for her engagement and goals and is going to start her study at University of Applied Sciences Europe this winter semester already.
Maya would like to go back to her home Syria someday to help rebuild the country after the war. „I think there is a high demand for psychologists“, says Maya. Because the people need help with processing all the terrible things happening in Syria. Stefan Stein was impressed by her initiative and intentions. That is why he took a stand for Maya and enabled another scholarship.
Maya is full of joy. Without this scholarship she would have had to wait a few semesters to study psychology because of her 2.8 grade. Now she is able to fulfill her dream this year already.
And of course her parents, who worked in academic jobs in Syria as well, are very proud. „This is the best for her future“, says her father Joseph Sednawi.
We wish Maya all the best with her studies and fulfilling her dreams!
