Prof. Stefan Stein, born May 24, 1965, is the rector and CEO of University of Applied Sciences Europe (UE) since 19 January 2015 and was elected unanimously by the university senate.
He was previously the Academic Dean for around 9 months at UE. Starting as an Assistant Professor in 2006, he was made full-time Professor of Finance and Asset Management in that year, and since then he has served in various capacities at the university.
The passionate banker is a highly-regarded expert on SMEs and researches in this area (SME finance, risk management, banking regulations). With his doctorate in Economics he was a member of the advisory committee for the study “Economic and Social Significance of Family Enterprises” commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy between 2007 and 2008, and has been an adviser to the initiative “Finance Communication in SMEs”. For over 13 years he served as Director of the renowned Research Institute for Credit and Finance (ikf°) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and since 2006 he has been a member of the Board of Directors at the SME consultancy firm Moore Stephens Naust AG.
The expansion of the university concept in China is his most important project at UE. After Berlin and Hamburg, Prof. Stein is also involved in the establishment of the Qingdao campus, and the aim of this cooperation is the creation and expansion of the double degree program with partner universities.
